The Science of Desire

How do we explain why some products fail even when there is a tonne of market research saying that it will be successful?  Simple.  Market research requires participants to be rational, and our desires when we purchase something, are completely opposite. 95% of our decisions are made at the unconscious level.  Meaning our perceptions of something beat cognition every time! So where does branding come into all of this? Branding is the frame that companies put around Read more

All the music you can possibly want: part uno.

Reviving the gentlemen's club

We all should know pictures like the one to the left. A gathering of great thinkers who, besides looking like bosses, discuss the big problems of society. Although I do not qualify myself to be on the same intellectual levels of the great thinkers, I would love to partake in one of these mind-stimulating get-togethers. The question that remains is obvious: is there a future for it? In this age of de-personalized communication, face to Read more

Meetings: efficiency killers

It's time for yet another rant on something that has become so common, that it had become a vital aspect in today's society: meetings. Oh god, how we humans love to get together to share ideas and make progress. Progress, yeah right. Most meetings are as unproductive as putting a down syndrome in charge of solving the economic crisis (although the result won't be any worse than the solutions our top dogs in politics came Read more

Bullshit science

It has been announced on our Facebook page that we would start to look into research and science and unravel the bullshit from the truth. Bullshit in science you say? How is that possible? Whenever humans are involved two things will happen: people will cheat or people will make errors. And judging from the way we humans behave in other aspects of our life, It would be rather hypocritical to assume that cases of mass fraud (willingly Read more

Meetings: efficiency killers

It’s time for yet another rant on something that has become so common, that it had become a vital aspect in today’s society: meetings. Oh god, how we humans love to get together to share ideas and make progress. Progress, yeah right.

Most meetings are as unproductive as putting a down syndrome in charge of solving the economic crisis (although the result won’t be any worse than the solutions our top dogs in politics came up with so far). The conversation will never fully discuss the actual topic you wish to address. Most of the time people have hidden agenda’s and will grab their chance to steer the conversation to their desired topic at the first sight of a relevant keyword. Sometimes it’s relevant, a lot of times it’s BS that acts as a time-filler or just doesn’t make sense at all. Read more

Posted on by Joep van Agteren in Mental, Productivity | Leave a comment

procrastinateOne of the biggest hype words of the past years is procrastination: the art of not doing anything and postponing all that is important. You might think that people who made this their hobby are deemed to become a burger-flipper at a Mac or Burgerking. Think again: professor John R. Perry even won a Ig Nobel Price (read: honour and a fuckload of money) with it. Read more

Nasty habits you need to change asap.

One of the most important aspects of life in my opinion is living large while making sure this does not affect others negatively. I don’t give a crap what imaginary figure you believe in, how much money you spend on blow-up dolls & Chinese ‘massages’, or your way of being ecological & green, while using Apple products. Just make sure you don’t annoy the shit out of other people with your behavior. And because this blog is all about educating people, I will run through the most annoying of nasty habits you can have, so you know what you behavior to have to change ASAP. Believe me, the world will be a far better place if you stop behaving like an ego-centric fuck-up and start respecting other people and their ways of living. Read more

Tv shows everybody needs to watch

Posted on by Joep van Agteren in Brain farts, Humor, Mental | Leave a comment

remote controlI am one of those people who does not watch tv shows 24/7. I couldn’t care less about ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘Breaking Bad’. However, once I get hooked to a show that I really like, I have to see all of the episodes. In order to prevent myself from ruining entire days, I will not even give in to the temptation. The only tv shows I will indulge myself in, are the funny yet educative ones. And believe me when I say that there are a fuckload out there that will both entertain you and teach you something that will come in handy to impress your friends in the pub and your father in law at Christmas-dinner.
